چکیده
Spruce-Derived Cellulose Scaffold In article number 2100787, Kai Li, Qi Zhou, and co-workers demonstrate a facile crosslinking strategy for the top-down fabrication of spruce-derived mesoporous cellulose scaffolds with native wood cellular structure subsequent immobilization biomolecules via versatile amine-based reactive handle. This new route opens up possibilities biodiagnostic, biocatalytic, bioseparation applications using wood-derived hierarchical scaffolds. Cover design by Salla Koskela.

Metamaterials: Snapping Mechanical Metamaterials under Tension (Adv. Mater. 39/2015).
By exploiting snap-through instabilities, D. Pasini and co-workers design a damage-tolerant mechanical metamaterial that snaps sequentially under tension, thereby accommodating a very large deformation up to 150%. On page 5931, they describe how the nonlinear mechanical response of the metamaterial can be robustly programmed by tuning the architecture of its unit cell.
متن کاملSynthesis of new bis(acyl)phosphane oxide photoinitiators for the surface functionalization of cellulose nanocrystals.
A new synthesis of bis(acyl)phosphane oxide (BAPO) photoinitiators was developed which can be used to functionalize cellulose nanocrystal surfaces for polymer grafting. Hybrid materials with excellent graft yields can be rapidly obtained under mild and acid-free conditions.
متن کاملFunctionalization of Cellulose: Synthesis of Water-soluble Cationic Cellulose Derivatives
One of the trends of modern cellulose chemistry is the functionalization of known cellulose derivatives in order to expand their application area. In this work, water-soluble cationic cellulose derivatives containing up to 4% coupled nitrogen were obtained by the amination of hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) with two different etherification agents, diethylepoxypropylamine (DEEPA) and (2-chlorethyl)...
متن کاملPebax-Modified Cellulose Acetate Membrane for CO2/N2 Separation
Carbon dioxide (CO2) release from the exhaust gas streams of power plants that burn fossil fuels contributes the most emission of this gas, which includes more than half of the greenhouse effects. Thus, the separation of CO2 from exhaust gases is one of the main environmental concerns. Membrane technology, due to many advantages, has attracted many research attentions among the various gas sepa...
متن کاملThe osteogenesis of bacterial cellulose scaffold loaded with fisetin
Objective(s): Bacterial cellulose (BC) has applications in medical science, it is easily synthesized, economic and purer compared to plant cellulose. The present study aimed to evaluate BC, a biocompatible natural polymer, as a scaffold for the bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) loaded with fisetin, a phytoestrogen.Materials and Methods: BC hydrogel scaffold was prepared from Gluconacet...
